The wood has a variety of campsites to suit all purposes. There are areas suitable for larger group camps as well as areas suited for individual patrols or groups of patrols clustered together. There are a number of small plantations dotted throughout the wood suitable for hammocking. Whatever your needs we are sure to have a site suitable for you.
Each identified site has a fireplace and seating arranged on a rock outcrop. Fires must be contained on the outcrop.
Utilities
The wood has three composting toilets located round the site. There are toilets in the Bolton barn which are accessible via the back door, April to October, when the barn is open. In addition, there are a number of field urinals dispersed around the site.
During the summer season - April to October - water is normally* available from standpipes situated at various points throughout the wood. Out with these times there is no piped water on site and it is designated "Greenfield." During the winter months leaders must make their own suitable arrangements.
*Depending on weather conditions i.e. frost predictions water may not be available early April or late October.
There is a plentiful supply of dead wood around the site which can be gathered for firewood. On no account should live trees be cut.
