Creation of the Trust

The land belonged to the Bolton family. Sir Ian Bolton, who was the scout leader at the 2nd Torwood Group, donated the land in trust for use by future generations of Scouts. The ancient Scottish ceremony of “Sasine” was performed, the owner breaking off a piece of rock and handing it to one of the Trustees, as a symbolic transfer of the ground on  9th June 1946.

100 years later

The Barrwood is still used as a scout campsite. Whilst primarily for the use of Forth Region Scouts it is open to any members of the World Scout Movement. Our most recent overseas visitors were from Poland.

In recent years the trust has also hosted groups from other youth organisations including the Boys Brigade, Fire Cadets and Duke of Edinburgh expedition training events.
